Auckland / Interview
The Auckland interview
Interview by invitation, and it carries significant weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Interview by invitation
Programme-specific interviews only; most notable is the Medicine MMI (Multiple Mini Interview), held on campus in Auckland for shortlisted applicants. No interview for standard undergraduate programmes.
How to prepare for Auckland
- For medicine and other limited-entry programmes, interviews are only for shortlisted candidates , focus first on meeting the published grade and UCAT thresholds, as those determine whether you are invited.
- The medicine MMI format uses short rotating stations assessing communication, ethics, and situational judgment , not academic knowledge. Practice thinking aloud under time pressure, not rehearsing scripted answers.
- For the vast majority of programmes that have no interview, admission is purely threshold-based: verify the exact entry requirements for your specific degree on the Auckland faculty page and direct all energy there.
- International applicants should apply well ahead of the December deadline to allow time for visa processing , late applications risk missing the intake even if academically qualified.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
