Cal Poly SLO / Interview
The Cal Poly SLO interview
No admissions interview. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
No admissions interview
No interviews offered; Cal Poly SLO is a large public university that does not conduct admissions interviews.
How to prepare for Cal Poly SLO
- Cal Poly SLO uses a major-specific review process , your application is evaluated in the context of your intended major, so make sure your activities, courses, and personal insight questions clearly connect to your chosen field.
- The six Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) on Cal State Apply are your primary narrative tool. Treat them as mini-essays: be specific, concrete, and demonstrate the 'Learn by Doing' ethos Cal Poly is known for.
- Visit campus or attend a virtual information session if possible , demonstrated interest is not formally tracked, but knowing the campus culture helps you write more authentic PIQs.
- Major impaction means some programs (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture) are far more selective than the overall acceptance rate suggests , research your specific major's requirements and have a realistic safety plan.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
