Colgate / Interview
The Colgate interview
Optional interview, and it carries minor weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Optional interview
Optional alumni interview, ~30-45 min, virtual or in your area; conducted by Colgate alumni volunteers
How to prepare for Colgate
- Colgate alumni interviewers often care deeply about the university's close-knit community feel , be ready to speak concretely about why Colgate's size and liberal arts core appeal to you specifically, not just 'small school' generically.
- The interview is conversational and low-pressure; alumni are not scoring you on a rubric, so focus on genuine dialogue rather than rehearsed answers.
- Come prepared with thoughtful questions about the alumni's own Colgate experience , interviewers appreciate curiosity about campus life, study groups, and the Core curriculum.
- If no interview slot is available in your area, do not worry , Colgate explicitly notes that not every applicant gets one, and absence of an interview does not disadvantage you.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
