Georgetown supplemental essays
All 3 required prompts for 2025-2026, each with its own deep guide: what it is really asking, annotated examples, and what to avoid.
Start by getting the school-specific Why Georgetown essay right, because it is the one most applicants underbuild. You are applying to a particular undergraduate school, and its essay should sound like it could not be sent to any other. An applicant to the School of Foreign Service should write about a specific regional studies track or a question of global policy that drives them; a business applicant should write about a specific concentration and why it fits. Name real programs and tie them to evidence from your own life.
For the personal essay, lean into Georgetown's academic, slightly old-school sensibility. They invite a personal or creative essay, and they genuinely mean it: an essay of ideas, a distinctive voice, or a reflective piece lands better here than a formulaic challenge-and-growth arc. And do not treat the activity essay as a throwaway. In about 250 words, pick the involvement that means the most and show why through one concrete moment, not a summary of duties.
Mistakes that sink Georgetown essays
The essay is tied to a specific school. If it does not name programs unique to the College, SFS, business, or health school, it reads as interchangeable.
Half a page is enough for one real moment and its meaning. Do not summarize everything you did in the activity; show why it mattered.
Half a page and a full page are real targets. A three-line activity essay looks thin; a three-page personal essay looks undisciplined.
An essay with zero sense of others, service, or a wider world misses Georgetown's Jesuit character. It does not need to be preachy, just aware.
