Grinnell / Interview
The Grinnell interview
Optional interview, and it carries minor weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Optional interview
Optional alumni interview, ~30-45 min, conducted virtually or in your local area
How to prepare for Grinnell
- Grinnell alumni interviewers focus heavily on intellectual curiosity , come ready to discuss a topic you have genuinely explored deeply, not just a polished activity list.
- Be prepared to talk about why Grinnell specifically: its open curriculum, self-governance tradition, and social responsibility mission are central to what the college looks for.
- The interview is largely informational and two-way , treat it as a conversation; asking thoughtful questions about the alumni's own Grinnell experience leaves a strong impression.
- Scheduling promptly after receiving the invitation signals demonstrated interest, which Grinnell does track even as a test-optional, holistic school.
