What is the JMU optional essay prompt?
The optional prompt reads: "If there is something important we should know about you, this is the place to talk about it." Use it for genuine context that does not appear elsewhere, such as a circumstance, a passion, or a specific reason JMU fits you. Keep it concise, around 150 to 250 words.
Is JMU test-optional?
Yes. JMU is test-optional for first-year applicants. You will not be penalized in admissions, scholarship, or Honors College review if you choose not to submit SAT or ACT scores. If you do submit, JMU superscores by taking your highest section scores.
What are the JMU application deadlines for 2025-26?

Does the JMU Honors College require essays?
Yes. Honors College applicants write two short essays of 900 to 1,400 characters each: one on your ideal college experience and how the Honors College helps you reach it, and one naming the single value from a provided list that matters most to you, and why.
