The JMU interview
No admissions interview. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
No admissions interview
No interviews offered. JMU does not conduct admissions interviews for undergraduate applicants.
How to prepare for JMU
- Your Common App personal statement carries nearly all the writing weight since JMU has no required supplements , invest heavily in making it specific and memorable.
- Visit campus or attend a virtual info session before applying; JMU tracks demonstrated interest and an on-campus visit signals genuine enthusiasm for the school.
- Apply Early Action by November 1 to receive a mid-to-late January decision , JMU's EA is non-binding, so it costs nothing to hear back early.
- If you are targeting the Honors College, note it requires two separate essays (900-1,400 characters each) and has a more selective review, so treat those essays with the same care as a separate application.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
