Johns Hopkins / Interview
The Johns Hopkins interview
Optional interview, and it carries minor weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Optional interview
Optional alumni interview (~30-45 min), arranged through the Hopkins Alumni for Admissions Program (HAAP); virtual or local in-person
How to prepare for Johns Hopkins
- Focus on your genuine intellectual curiosity , Hopkins values research-mindedness and interdisciplinary thinking, so be ready to discuss specific academic interests in depth.
- Interviews are alumni-led and conversational, not evaluative grilling; treat it as a two-way exchange and ask thoughtful questions about the alumni's own Hopkins experience.
- Not all applicants receive an interview offer, and lack of an interview does not disadvantage your application , availability depends on alumni capacity in your area.
- Avoid generic 'top school' answers; be specific about Hopkins programs, departments, or research centers (e.g., KSAS, Whiting School, or affiliated hospitals) that connect to your actual goals.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
