Lancaster / Interview
The Lancaster interview
Interview by invitation, and it carries significant weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Interview by invitation
Interviews required only for select courses (e.g. Medicine, some portfolio/creative subjects); invited by the department, typically on-campus interview days, ~20-30 min; most undergraduate courses have no interview.
How to prepare for Lancaster
- If your course requires an interview (Medicine, creative/portfolio subjects), expect an academic or portfolio-focused session , research your subject thoroughly and be ready to discuss your personal statement in depth.
- For courses that do not interview (the majority), your UCAS personal statement is your only direct voice to admissions , make specific, substantive academic points rather than generic enthusiasm.
- Lancaster uses a rolling admissions process, so apply early; if an interview day is offered to you, respond and confirm promptly as slots fill quickly.
- For non-interview courses, demonstrate interest through open day attendance and well-targeted subject choices, as there is no interview opportunity to compensate for a weak application.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
