McMaster / Interview
The McMaster interview
Interview by invitation, and it carries significant weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Interview by invitation
By invitation only for select programs (notably Honours Health Sciences); panel interview held on campus in winter, ~30-45 min. Most McMaster programs have no interview at all.
How to prepare for McMaster
- Only a small number of McMaster programs interview , Honours Health Sciences (HHS) and a few others. If your program does not interview, focus entirely on your supplementary application essays and academics.
- HHS interviews are panel-format (typically 2-3 interviewers) and assess critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and self-awareness , not just grades or extracurriculars.
- Prepare for scenario and values-based questions in HHS interviews; McMaster emphasizes problem-based learning, so showing comfort with ambiguity and collaborative thinking matters.
- Interview invitations for HHS come after the supplementary review , there is no way to request one. Meeting the GPA threshold and submitting a strong supplementary is the prerequisite.
