Miami / Interview
The Miami interview
Optional interview, and it carries minor weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Optional interview
Optional alumni interview, ~30-45 min, virtual or in your area; offered on a space-available basis through the UM alumni network
How to prepare for Miami
- Miami's alumni interviews are informational rather than evaluative , they're primarily a chance to learn about the university and express genuine interest, so treat it as a conversation rather than a formal test.
- Prepare specific reasons why you want to attend Miami: research programs, interdisciplinary opportunities, location in a global city, and any faculty or research that excites you , interviewers notice when interest is vague.
- Not all applicants receive an interview opportunity, so do not count on it; focus your demonstrated interest through campus visits, virtual info sessions, and your supplemental essay.
- Follow up with a brief thank-you note to your interviewer , Miami values community and the 'Cane culture, and small courtesies leave a lasting impression with alumni volunteers.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
