Middlebury / Interview
The Middlebury interview
Optional interview, and it carries minor weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Optional interview
Optional alumni interview, ~30-45 min, conducted by alumni volunteers in your area or virtually; requested through the Applicant Portal after applying
How to prepare for Middlebury
- Request the interview through the Applicant Portal promptly after submitting your application , Middlebury cannot guarantee an interview for every applicant due to volume, so early action helps.
- Not being matched with an interviewer carries no penalty; Middlebury explicitly states absence of an interview will not negatively impact your candidacy.
- If you are not matched, use Middlebury's 'Glimpse' alternative , a 90-second video or audio statement , to add a personal dimension to your application.
- Alumni interviewers are volunteers, not admissions officers; treat the conversation as a genuine exchange about your interests and fit with Middlebury's ethos of academic depth and global engagement rather than a formal evaluation.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
