Sewanee / Interview
The Sewanee interview
Informational interview. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Informational interview
Optional informal counselor appointment, ~20-25 min, virtual or on campus; explicitly not a structured interview , open to seniors, admitted students, and transfer students; not available Nov through early March
How to prepare for Sewanee
- Sewanee explicitly calls these appointments 'conversations, not interviews' , treat them as a two-way information exchange, not a performance. Ask genuine questions about campus life, the Order of the Gown, or academic programs.
- Because there is no supplemental essay and the appointment carries no evaluative weight, your primary tools for showing fit are your Common App personal statement and demonstrated interest (campus visits, attending info sessions, emailing your regional counselor).
- If you cannot visit campus, a virtual counselor appointment is a low-pressure way to register on their radar and ask questions , schedule one before the November reading-season blackout begins.
- Sewanee weighs demonstrated interest, so follow up after any appointment with a brief thank-you email referencing something specific from your conversation.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
