SMU / Interview
The SMU interview
No admissions interview. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
No admissions interview
No interviews offered; admissions decisions are based entirely on the written application.
How to prepare for SMU
- Use your two 250-word supplemental essays (Why SMU and Community) strategically , these are your main chance to show a personal fit beyond grades, so be specific about SMU programs, professors, or opportunities you have researched.
- Attend SMU virtual info sessions, visit campus if possible, and connect with current students or alumni , demonstrated interest can matter at schools around SMU's selectivity level, even without a formal interview.
- Since there is no interview to humanize your file, make sure your activities list and personal statement work together to tell a coherent story about who you are and what you will contribute.
- If you apply Early Decision, be prepared to articulate your commitment to SMU through your essays alone , ED signals interest institutionally, but your written voice must carry the full weight of that case.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
