Southampton / Interview
The Southampton interview
Interview by invitation. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Interview by invitation
No interview for most courses; medicine and a small number of competitive programmes may invite shortlisted applicants to an interview (in-person or virtual, ~20-30 min), arranged by the department
How to prepare for Southampton
- For the vast majority of courses no interview is offered, so your UCAS personal statement and predicted grades carry almost all the weight , invest your effort there.
- If applying to medicine or another interview-track programme, prepare to discuss your personal statement in depth: Southampton interviewers typically probe the experiences and motivations you wrote about.
- Show continued interest by attending Southampton open days or virtual events; evidence of genuine engagement can support your personal statement narrative.
- For non-medicine courses, focus on meeting Southampton's grade conditions precisely , with an ~80% offer rate, a strong academic profile is the decisive factor.
