UC San Diego / Interview
The UC San Diego interview
No admissions interview. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
No admissions interview
No interviews offered. UCSD and all UC campuses do not conduct admissions interviews for undergraduate applicants.
How to prepare for UC San Diego
- Focus all energy on the 4 Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) , each capped at 350 words. These are the closest thing UCSD has to a personal conversation with the admissions committee.
- Choose PIQs that highlight different facets of yourself; avoid repeating the same themes across answers, since the holistic review relies entirely on your written profile.
- Demonstrate demonstrated interest through campus visits or virtual info sessions if possible , UCSD does track this, though it is a minor factor compared to academics.
- Research UCSD's specific college system (Revelle, Muir, Marshall, etc.) and, if the application asks, explain why a particular college fits your academic and personal style.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
