The Illinois interview
No admissions interview. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
No admissions interview
No interviews offered. UIUC does not conduct admissions interviews for undergraduate applicants.
How to prepare for Illinois
- UIUC evaluates applicants heavily on program-specific criteria, so tailor your supplemental essays (two ~150-word essays) directly to the specific major you are applying to , generic essays hurt your chances.
- Because admissions is program-by-program, research acceptance rates for your specific major (e.g. CS or Engineering can be near 21%) rather than relying on the overall 42% rate.
- Demonstrate demonstrated interest through campus visits or virtual info sessions, since there is no interview to show enthusiasm , your essays and activities list carry that burden entirely.
- Apply Early Action by November 1 if possible; UIUC releases EA decisions by January 30, giving you an early signal before other deadlines close.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
