Utrecht / Interview
The Utrecht interview
Interview by invitation, and it carries moderate weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Interview by invitation
By-invitation interview for University College Utrecht (UCU) applicants only; most regular Utrecht University bachelor programs have no interview. UCU interviews are conducted online or on campus, typically ~30 min, after a written application review.
How to prepare for Utrecht
- Only University College Utrecht (UCU) uses interviews , regular Utrecht bachelor programs select entirely on documents (motivation letter, grades, references), so focus your energy there if you are not applying to UCU.
- UCU interviews are holistic and cover academic interests, personal background, and motivations; be ready to discuss your Statement of Academic Motivation in depth and explain why the UCU liberal arts model suits you.
- Not all UCU applicants are invited to interview , the invitation itself signals you have cleared an initial document review, so treat the interview as a genuine final hurdle rather than a formality.
- For non-UCU programs, demonstrate commitment through a strong, program-specific motivation letter; there is no interview stage to recover from a weak written application.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
