The Virginia Tech interview
No admissions interview. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
No admissions interview
No interviews offered. Virginia Tech does not conduct admissions interviews for undergraduate applicants.
How to prepare for Virginia Tech
- Use your three required short answers (120 words each) to show genuine alignment with Virginia Tech's Ut Prosim ('That I May Serve') motto , concrete examples of service carry more weight than abstract statements.
- Demonstrate demonstrated interest through campus visits, attending virtual info sessions, or connecting with current students, since Virginia Tech does track demonstrated interest.
- Choose your intended major thoughtfully , Virginia Tech admits to specific colleges and programs, so showing why you fit that program strengthens your application.
- If you are on the border for a competitive program like engineering, a strong additional essay explaining your fit and preparation for that college can help compensate for the lack of an interview.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
