Yeshiva / Interview
The Yeshiva interview
Interview required, and it carries moderate weight in the decision. Here is how it works and how to prepare.
Interview required
Required admissions officer interview, ~30-45 min, conducted in-person (school visit or on campus) or virtually; applicants from Israel coordinate through the Israel admissions office
How to prepare for Yeshiva
- The interview is with an admissions officer, not an alumni volunteer , treat it as a formal evaluation and prepare to discuss your Jewish identity, values, and how YU's dual curriculum (Torah U'Madda) fits your goals.
- Articulate your specific reasons for choosing YU over other universities , admissions officers are assessing genuine fit with the institution's mission, so vague answers about 'Jewish environment' will not distinguish you.
- Contact yuadmit@yu.edu early to schedule your interview; since decisions are released on a rolling basis, earlier interviews can mean earlier decisions.
- Be ready to discuss your gap year (Israel program) plans if applicable, as many YU students do a year of Israel study , having a thoughtful answer signals seriousness about the YU pathway.
Practice before the real thing
Rehearse real admissions-interview questions and get an honest read on your answers, what an interviewer hears, where you sound generic, and what to sharpen. We coach you; we never script you.
