University of Florida
One required 250-word essay on your most meaningful out-of-class commitment, plus optional add-ons.
What Florida rewards
University of Florida keeps it short and pointed. There is one required supplemental essay of 100 to 250 words about your most meaningful commitment outside the classroom, plus a handful of optional add-ons (an additional-information box, and separate prompts if you apply to the Honors Program or Innovation Academy). You can apply through the UF application or the Common App.
UF is test-flexible, not test-optional: it has no test preference and superscores the SAT, ACT, and CLT, so strong scores still help. The core challenge is compression. You have roughly 250 words to make one commitment feel real, specific, and revealing of who you are, which means you cannot waste a sentence on throat-clearing or resume-style lists.
